""It may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work. And that when we no longer know which way to go, we have come to our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings." I’ve always loved that poem… I’ve never met anybody like you two. Wounded, brave, ridiculous, weird. You have a wild heart, Peter. You’re tearing yourself up inside. And you’ll probably end up dead, way before your time. You blow my mind. Roman Godfrey, born to be king of the universe, and inside, you’re a broken boy. You think it’s better to have people fear you. But your heart is crying all the time. At war with yourself. Dark as the inside of love. I can’t stop thinking about you. I’d be crazy to not get in my car and be gone. But I am crazy and I’m going to have to live with it. [Miranda gets up to go upstairs.] Well, are you coming or not?"

— Actual words that were actually uttered in the actual canon of an actual show (before it cuts away and then, in the next episode, fades in again). ACTUAL MARY SUE CONDUIT BADFIC AND WE STILL DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

Scarlett [Johansson] is just the most amazing, sweetest girl on the planet. We’ve done several, outside of the Marvel universe, we’ve done some other films together, and I always relish my time with her because she’s always so… She’s way smarter than most people think and an incredibly talented person, and she makes me laugh so much. She’s hilarious. You know, we used to spend time together at like six in the morning because we were in the same make up trailer. It was me and her, her music, her make up people and my guy, and it was the best time of the day for me. x

Gosh he looks like a teenager with a crush.

Yep, Thor is now a woman

In an announcement this morning on The View, Marvel revealed that the character of Thor — the thunder god of Norse mythology made famous through decades of comics and most recently in the movies starring Chris Hemsworth — will become a woman.

"Thor, the God of Thunder, he messed up, and he’s no longer worthy to hold that damn hammer of his. For the first time in history, that hammer is being held by a woman," said host Whoopi Goldberg.

But it’s not the first time Thor has changed forms.

My god, the self-righteousness.

There’ll be *one arc* in *one Thor series* in which Thor somehow loses his hammer and a Goddess of Thunder shows up who is now Kind Of Female Thor, and suddenly comics aren’t sexist anymore? There have been books led by female Asgardians in very recent memory, but oh hey, they were cancelleddespite favorable reviews”, IMAGINE THAT. But yes, giving the hammer to a woman ~FOR THE FIRST TIME~ (sort of) will totally ensure a bright future for your little girl, THANKS TO MARVEL ALL HAIL MARVEL.

I mean, it’s one thing to be excited about the general push towards more diversity in comics, and to acknowledge that Marvel is starting to actively court socially conscious crowds, but “THOR (YOU KNOW, THOR!) IS NOW FEMALE (LOOK AT HER BOOBS)!” is not an act of anti-sexist defiance in and of itself. Also, “the character of Thor means a lot to me and seeing him reduced to a hammer and a cape that can just be passed on at will makes me feel really upset,” is not a misogynist sentiment. But I guess it makes you feel better about yourself to think so.

I do wonder how many of the people applauding Marvel for a “female Thor” actually look down on genderbent characters in fic (“write about the awesome ladies that already exist in canon!”), or complain about ~fake~ F/M in the F/M tag on AO3. But hey, this is *canon* being all progressive and shit, LET’S ALL MAKE FUN OF THE NECKBEARDS WHO CAN’T HANDLE HOW PROGRESSIVE THIS IS.

(In other news, and just because there’s a post going around that somehow equates both these things: Steve wanting Sam to be the new Captain America is not *exactly* the same as Thor doing something so completely and utterly terrible he will stop being Thor for a while, MAYBE YOU CAN SPOT THE DIFFERENCE?)
